Hello! Id like some advice regarding pregnancy and looking for a job. I am 6.5 months pregnant and there is no hiding it. I am looking to pick up some per diem or contract shifts through an agency and wanted to know if I should disclose that Im pregnant before going in for the interview or at the interview etc. I guess my thought process is that it shouldnt matter since I am only looking for per diem work that I control as far as schedule.( i have a 17 month at home as well) Please let me know your thoughts! Thanks so much!

Don't offer this information, nor should they ask it would really open them up to problems by appearing as though that had an impact on any decision they might make. If you haven't worked per diem before, just know that many places will terminate you if you do not meet your requirements and since you will have been there for only a short time and might even still be in any introductory period they have, you will not have much protection.

That being said, if you're awesome and they really like you, they'll hold a position until the end of time. I've seen that happen too.

No, you don't have to disclose the pregnancy. If the agency doesn't work out, is per diem work available at the place you work now? It would be easy to pick up shifts at a place where you don't need any orientation and you know the people and how the department runs.

Per diem work is great for having full control over your schedule. There are pros and cons, like everything else in life, but I have found that the adjustable schedule makes it all worthwhile.

Thanks for the responses! I should clarify I am a LVN and am not currently working. I just resigned from a position in Med management due to the long commute and limited hours (2 hrs/wk) So I would be applying for home health positions, school nurse per diem etc. This is my current situation. I have applied and had a phone call yesterday to discuss opportunities but wans't sure how to approach the pregnancy issue. Some of these postions could be anywhere from one time to a few months.
