pre-employment vision test: blind in one eye

Nurses General Nursing

I just got an offer from one of the largest hospitals in town. I was told to go in for pre-employment physical which is okay except I'm nervous because I'm blind in one eye.

The other eye has perfect vision and I had no problem throughout the nursing school/clinical rotations.

Does anyone know what's involved in vision test (do they ask me to cover up one eye at a time etc.) and if they can withdraw the offer because of this?

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

They usually do check both eyes, but when I was being examined (also bored and nosey) I was informed that they really didn't care about the individual test as long as with both eyes you could see at a certain rate (it wasn't 20/20, but I can't remember what it was. The same thing was true when I took my grandfather for an exam because I wanted to make sure he was ok to continue driving.

I don't think your employer will care as long as your vision is ok with the other eye. You would have to ask your potential employer to be sure, but I can't think of any reason to deny you employment because of it. There might be some type of job that requires both eyes but I'm not sure what it would be.
