PNCB PNP Boards

Hey Everyone,

I just took my Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Boards and passed! I wanted to share what I did to study in case others are looking for some guidance.

I used Barkley's CD review and Book to guide most of my studying. --highly reccommend

I also went through the Silbert-Flagg and Sloand Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Review--I highly recommend this book.

I also had the NAPNAP Core questions book--this was the least helpful.

I used my Burns textbook as reference as well as medbullets.com and Table of Contents | Pediatrics Clerkship | The University of Chicago.

I took both practice tests on the PNCB website--pricey but I think were worth it.

I studied about 12-15 hours a week for 4-6 weeks leading up to the boards.

Hope this is helpful-

Thank you for posting this! I have been looking for reviews of different PNP board prep materials but usually only see FNP comments. I am getting ready to begin studying and am trying to figure out which online prep course to use, 2017 Barkley's, Mosby's PNP review, or 2015 PNP Fitzgerald course. You found Barkley's to be very useful? Has anyone else tried any of the other methods for PNP boards?

One of my classmates used Mosby's PNP review (online modules) and she passed the exam! She was pleased with the course and how it was set up. Provided good motivation and structure to her studying.

I actually took my PNCB CPNP-PC today and passed. Huge relief!

It has been almost 7 years since I graduated from the MSN program and just recently started working as a PNP. So getting back to the study grind was hard! I studied mostly on my days off in the past 3 weeks. I used the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certification review guide by Silbert- Flagg and Sloand (both the orange version and the updated white/blue version), referenced the Core Curriculum for Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners by Ryan-Wenger and my old 2009 Burns textbook. Even though, I bought the updated Silbert- Flagg guide book last year, it was much easier for me to read the orange version. I found a lot of spelling/grammar errors in the updated version. In addition, I bought the two online modules from PNCB website. The questions on the exam seemed so much more simplistic than the modules.

I did wish I had the Barkley audio CDs or Mosby online review, as I am sure they would have made my studying more structured and informative. However, I did not want to spend more money, but luckily, I passed!

thanks for posting this, its been 5 years for me and I take mine in 3 weeks, its nice to hear that you can still do well after a hiatus! you're giving me hope lol!

Do you remember how you did on the practice exams? I am taking them and wondering how the scores compared. Thanks.

Hi! I used sillbert and Flagg and the core review from NAPNAP books. I was hitting 70s on practice tests and I just passed PNCB three weeks ago. Good luck!!

Thanks! What practice tests did you do?

I used the pediatric nurse practitioner certification review guide by silbert-Flagg and sloand and also core review for primary care pediatric nurse practitioners by NAPNAP. Both books have hundreds of review questions. If you only want to get one get the first one.
