I have never been told this by a patient. But I have gone in to report & had the day shift tell me in report, "This patient said they did not want you for their nurse anymore."

Have you ever had this happen to you? How to handle it?What did you do?

Once. Man dislocated knee. Anyway he was supposed to be OOB as much as possible. Wife thought he was in too much pain to get up and said we were "hurting" him..

Sheesh he was getting IV Dilaudid and taking it like it was water.

SHE was a paralegal and knew no one could MAKE hubby do anything. She "fired me."

I was off a long weekend and came back to find he had fired off a PE a day or two later, had expired....and had NEVER gotten OOB.

Too sad.....he was a nice guy who was totally whipped by his wife.

i have had patients ask for a female rather than male nurse.

I have grown up alot and i understand it can be embarrassing for a female patient to be cared for by a male nurse this worked for them till I was assigned with a male pool nurse whose work was lousy at best ( had to do both assignments and yes I did report him) But the female patient had seen my work before with others and changed her mind. After that she always asks for me she told me I have gentle hands. It was the greatest compliment in the world for me. And the DON was in shock when I mentioned it to her that I didnt need to switch assignments
