  1. I am a new nursing too. I have had two med errors. since feb (when I got my License). Both were stupid mistakes of trying to rush because of being short handed. On the other hand I have had four mistakes transcribing DR's orders I said even back in school the paperwork would kill me. It seems so simple to write clearly But one day I was reviewing an order. And for the life of me I could not figure out what he had written. I had the RN page him and ask what it was he had written. He was two floors below and made a smart comment about how the order was there and we should be able to read it. I could not read the squiggles and lines on the orders A second call from the RN for me really ****** him off. He told them he would be right up to read it to me! He arrived and I handed him the chart, he turned beet red. He could not read it either. And he could not remember what he was ordering. Now if he is rounding when I am there he makes a point to ask me if I have any questions before he leaves We are good friends now
  2. stidget becareful hun about pictures it does violate Hippa laws of privacy you need pt or legal representive permission to take them most LTC's post it No Cameras Allowed on permises. We all know why and it has nothing to with patients rights. Hang in theyre hun youll make it through this. I lost 3 patients this week alone one HIV and two CHF i knew all three for over a year and the other CNA's waited till i got in so i could do the post mortem cleaning on the HIV Pt We go to school we graduate the state registers us But still they fear everything Im rotated to every unit with a problem and still i survive you will to i hope there are nurses like you to work with when i graduate school. Its your type of caring that gives me hope and drive to become a licenced nurse hugs Michelle
  3. I wish it wouldnt happen but it does Im a CNA in Lancaster Pa working at a Facility we call "GHETTO MANOR" We get patients like that from other homes i am caring for a patient now with a stage 4 on the inner thighs RT and LT 16cm x 11 cm the femor is exposed. he has them on his hips and coccyx as well. he is quadroplegic from a fall he is alert and oriented. but he fights with the other nursing assistants whenever they try to give him care or position him My Facility is four floors I rotate all floors about 8pm everynight i get a page to report to his floor. He moans he dont wanted cleaned up and they should stop moving him around i give him a standard speech on "its to help you heal up and get your butt outta my facility" my friends will clean him and reposition him while i talk. He is one of many we get here I work some of the best nurses and assistants and some not so good. those of us who care and want to make a difference seem to out last those dont Thank God The patients I receive dont just come from other SNF they come from hospitals to We sent a young patient about 25 yr old car accident severe head trauma he has a trach and a foley he is mildly responsive some voluntary hand movement he began to show signs of pnemonia. he was in good shape out two weeks and back His grion area is completely exscoriated I cleaned him up got my nurse to get zinc oxide for me and put in a change of condition Its us the CNA or PCA who are responsible for letting this happen or preventing with proper care It takes so little time to prevent these i have seen so much in a year and after all this I am still starting nursing school this fall I must be crazy. well off my soapbox I vented a little thanks for listening
  4. Dear Jolie Thank you for for your very open mindedness I dont ever misrepresent myself to my patients or peers I lovingly and jokingly refer to myself "as but a lowley CNA" You to sound very dedicated to your profession and Im sure your are an outstanding nurse I try to bring comfort to all I work with Its my high in life When school begins this spring I will still be as a nursing assistant I will save the honor of promoting myself to Nursing student for after graduation before my state boards LOL thank you again for your kind words. Be well and never stop caring Michelle
  5. I don not take it badly but being a nurse comes from the heart and your compassion toward healing others. Licensure merely tells a person what level of care you may perform It doesnt make a person a nurse. There are LPN and RN's out in the real world who not nurses just holders of a license. Me personally all who care for the ill and terminally ill will be nurses to me but again this is merely perception from a cna. I dont mean to down grade your status as a licensed nurse or up grade my status as an unlicensed nurse it just the way we all look at the field. My RNs and LPNs treat me as an equal and use my military medical background as much as possible. But I have to remind them sometimes Im not licensed Dont worry about how I address my writing I do write from the heart but as always CNA falls behind my name not Nurse nor do people address me as Nurse I am merely called Michelle If you are not to angery at this a question I will ask. The CNA 2 course is longer and more involved upon completion a CNA performs level of formerly reserved for LPN's and even RN's only. Will they be Nurses or Assistants? I would like to know due to starting LPN school
  6. My Name is Michelle Im a transgendered nurse in Pa Im the first openly Trans nurse in the Lancaster Area. Are there any others in the state currently working If so Id like to hear from you Ive been working almost a year as a CNA and Im getting ready to start my LPN school.
  7. Hello Im a CNA in Lancaster Pa. And Im Transgendered. I was born male but im changing my gender to female. I live and work as a female nurse. Im trying to find out if anyone else like me exists. please write me back im not looking for a date just a friend. thank you for your time michelle
  8. Im a lowly CNA I take patient care more seriously than most Other CNA's They go home at 1100pm Rounds start at 1000pm for sixteen patients at least. Im never finished before 1100pm Then I got my charting its 1130p till Im done. Maybe I am slow but I talk to the patients while I work asking things like Is there anything I can get you before I go? Im studing to be a real nurse LPN/RN At times between 12hr shifts and keeping up my studies I feel so beat down My Nurses are great (RN/LPN's)they show me things about nursing I dont get out of books. They ask and I do immediately I love nursing I would only question if I thought the patient safety was at stake But thats just me I think at times Im a dying breed There are good CNA's out there but out of thirty or so I bet i am one of five cleaning up others messes If not me then who? I have got to keep on To all the RN/LPN's out there watch out for the good ones they are there ( I talk to much LOL ) Michelle roth CNA
  9. As a CNA Im careful to remind patients Im not the (Nurse RN or LPN whomever Im working with) As im working my way through school I have enough to worry about without the BON breathing down my neck LOL. Im just the assistant right now. When I earn my title I will happy to be called nurse.
  10. i have had patients ask for a female rather than male nurse. I have grown up alot and i understand it can be embarrassing for a female patient to be cared for by a male nurse this worked for them till I was assigned with a male pool nurse whose work was lousy at best ( had to do both assignments and yes I did report him) But the female patient had seen my work before with others and changed her mind. After that she always asks for me she told me I have gentle hands. It was the greatest compliment in the world for me. And the DON was in shock when I mentioned it to her that I didnt need to switch assignments
  11. Im curious where do you place hermaphodites and intersexed nurses Are they also in with such bad company as myself And just so you know i dont hide myself from my patients With very few exceptions Im totally excepted They see my inner self and realize Sex is an act. Gender is not an issue. And a good nurse is something to be cherished Im sorry for my previous comments they where rude but I have been dealing with this kind issue my whole life My fellow nurses have told the DON and the ADON that Im easy to talk to, always helpful, immaculate, And very hard working so I do take it personnally when people accuse me of hiding my gender making it sound like I get a sexual thrill out of doing my job. That is not the case. I go to a urological group and all the nurses are female no males I find no embarassment there. Maybe Im strange maybe a little crazy I still hurry to work everyday because I love helping people A feeling I hope never changes I hope I havent ranted to much Ive have a day off after 6 doubles in a row. May God smile down on you each and everyday Michelle
  12. I want a white nurse I want a black nurse I want a male nurse I want a female nurse Your dying and I am the only floor nurse availible. Then you die. where is your logic then. Your laying there bleeding to death Oh No I cant give critical care because Im not wanted. As long as you write your orders down and sign them If you have the time left I guess your ok. You have the compassion of a KKK member And the common sense of a rock. A nurse is a nurse sex religon creed color does not matter 40 or 50 years ago Black doctors and nurses didnt treat the white folk Now African American doctors and nurses treat any patient that has a need. Health Care is about healing treating and comforting Improving the quality of life for others But there will always be people like you I understand that but you are supposed to be a professional. I bet you treat patient of different origins as lesser being to. I pity your patients.
  13. Dear Krissy Like you I am a 42 yr old CNA working about a month now. I have seen it to but I was able to hook up with other CNA's Who want to provide the best care possible We treat each resident as if they were our own family This is why I stay if the little kids who are playing with not giving peri care or the proper care rule the facility Imagine the life the resident after you leave. I have spoken with the DON and ADON about this and they trying to get some good people in and they are keeping me with others who will work (some nights I dont get a break cleaning up after those before me) If they cant do that for you start dropping resumes. Get running girl. I'm staying put because they are paying for my R.N. schooling and because I do make a difference I became a nurse to help others, not for the paycheck But the money is nice to have Good Luck Sis Michelle
  14. Ive been practicing as a CNA for about a month While taking courses for my R.N. And last night I recieved a 33 yr old male HIV patient from the local hospital. He was in the final stages, acute respitorary distress I was stunned by his age so young but he looked so old. I was standing there doing vitals on him he was breathing very raspy and intermittent as i finished i looked into his eyes He rasied his hand as I was taking my gloves off. He just wanted me to hold his hand. I did I talked only slightly reassuring him it would be alright. He just happy to not be alone. Within 5 min his breathing stopped. No Pulse, nothing. I covered his hand up and called for the R.N. She went to inform the doctor and make all the notifications I stayed and cleaned him up. As I looked on his face there was no sign of the pain that had been there before. It was then the weirdest thought came to me. He didnt care that I am a Transexual Nurse. He just wanted to be held one more time. I became happy And it over came the sadness of his death. I hope soon more people have the same attitude but not waiting till the end to see me as a competent, compasionate nurse. Not a freak in a sideshow. Thanks for listening to my rantings
  15. Yes Even in Lancaster County some people are ok with seeing me as transgendered. Not all. The Lancaster County Prison fired me three monthes after they found out that I was Trans. I was an officer 18 1/2 years So the bed here is not all roses LOL Now though Im living my dream as a nurse.
