Oklahoma Nursing Programs?

To make a long story short, I wanted to be a medical assistant but since it's about a year of college anyway I have decided to just go for LPN. Can I still work in a doctor's office as an LPN? That's pretty much the reason I wanted to be a MA. I would prefer to work day hours in a clinic or docs office. Would I be over qualified as an LPN? Also, if I decide I want to go for RN, what is the best school close to Tulsa that credits will transfer? I DO NOT WANT TO TRY TCC. I was considering Tulsa Tech, but who will except my LPN credits towards an RN in the future from Tulsa Tech? Financing is limited as I couldn't get enough of it for the $10,000 for med assistant school, however tulsa tech is cheaper for an LPN. I just basically don't know what other schools are around here--I am in Bixby.

OU - Tulsa has a LPN to BSN bridge.

And TCC has an LPN to RN (ASN) bridge. Not sure of your reasons for not wanting to go there but they are one of the less expensive nursing schools in the area. They also have one of the highest NCLEX pass rates in the state.

Thanks for the info. TCC is too hard to get into and right now I just want to go for LPN and with them it will take me 2 years. I also don't like the admission office there. They were really rude and unhelpful.. I am just trying to figure out who will take credits from a tech school towards an RN program in the future. :) Also I would like to hear from other LPNs if they work in doc offices or not.

ALSO, I am terrified of Algebra, how much math is involved with the LPN courses?

TCC no longer requires math courses to be accepted into the nursing program. They stopped requiring in the middle of last semester while I was taking algebra. UGH!

I have always been awful in math and was terrified to take any classes but I managed an A in algebra! I asked for the best instructor when I registered and he explained everything to where I actually learned a thing or two.

I agree with you about the admissions being rude over the phone. The only thing I can say about that is they are not that way in person. Or so I haven't had a problem so far.

I'm not sure where you are getting your information about TCC being hard to get into. They actually accept more students into the nursing program than any other school in the area. The only schools that accepts more are in OKC.

I just wanted you give you another side of the story so you can make a better decision for yourself.

Have you checked into Langston? I know ORU & TU are the more expensive colleges in the area.

I thought about going the LPN way and taking the bridge as well but you are not actually saving any time by doing so. You still have to take all the prereqs but the nursing depts give credit for being an LPN instead of starting the nursing core classes with the first year, you take a bridge class and then get married into the 2nd year of the nursing classes. So it's takes the same amount of time to get there. You saved a year but it took a year to get your LPN so it's basically a wash.

I'm not sure about LPNs in the clinical setting but I do know they are used in the hospitals for sure. Sorry, wish I could help you more there!

What about Platt college? They have a high pass rate on the NCLEX.

I heard that at TCC, you can do a full year of pre-reqs and still not get accepted into the nursing program. I just don't have time like that to waste and I can't take the chance of going to school for a year for nothing or taking 4 years to complete it.

When I aquired about Platt I was told that the tuition is 120,000 for the LPN course!!! And it's only like 4000-6000 at Tulsa Tech.

This is also only the 1st year they were able to get NLN accredited. If you go that route just get all the pertanent info you can.

Everybody that I know, that has applied, has been accepted. They go on the point system and they required a 2.5 or higher.

So am I understanding you that you are going for a straight RN at TCC then? How long will that take you?
