Nursing theorists

Hi, I am new here and was not sure where to post my question. This section seemed to get alot of traffic so here I am.

Anyhow, I am doing an assigment on nursing theorists. I am in desperate need of some direction here. I have found that I would like to do the theory of resilience, but the only person I can find that has a theory on it is Laura Polk, and I can not find much information on her. Could anyone help me out here? Thanks.

Pat Benner, Novice to Expert

She was the theorist base for the program I went through.

Good book too...if you are into reading theory and stuff.

If you are in nursing school look to your nursing school's vision and mission, there should be a theorist in there.

How about Virginia Henderson. Nurses do for those what they cannot do for themselves. I.E. If they cannot breathe, we will breathe for them. It is the only nursing theory that makes any sense.

I guess I should clarify that 'they', refers to the people we take care of.

I think another one that makes excellent sense, and is so versatile, is the Nurse-Patient Dynamic Relationship theory by Ida Jean Orlando (Peltier). This theory was responsible for the creation of "the nursing process". Once the process is learned, it can be applied to economics, administration, patient care - just about anything. She did not write a lot but tons of stuff has been written about her. As for resilience, once you define the concept you may find other words or concepts that match theories. For instance, if you could evaluate the term "resilience" and "patient" and "nurse" then you could fit it into Orlando's theory. After all, if the nurse does not understand how to assess for resilience how can the nurse plan nursing care or interventions and determine if outcomes were met? Good luck!

The only nursing theory that I have actually used in the "real world" is from the brilliant theorist twistedpupchaser: If it is doing what it shouldn't; stop it! If it is not doing what it should; start it! If it is doing what it should, how it should; leave it the hell alone!
