Nursing in Hawaii Possible?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I know there are probably many threads about nursing in Hawaii, but I didn't know if there was any new information about it. My husband is a dentist and we are trying to figure out if it is possible to survive in Hawaii as a dentist and a nurse. Is it hard to afford the cost of living? Is it hard to find a dental and nursing job in Hawaii? What are the best islands to live on? etc. etc.

I would appreciate any information y'all have!

Thanks!

Welcome to AN! You may want to check out the Hawaii subforum for Hawaii-specific nursing information. Other than that, make sure you utilize various salary comparison sites to see what you would need to make in Hawaii compared to what you make where you live now. I've taken several vacations to Hawaii, and have heard and seen some shocking things about cost of living- gas is routinely about $2 more expensive there than in my home area, groceries are more expensive, and, according to one person I spoke with, the average electric bill (not using air conditioning) on Kauai is $400/month (not sure if they were serious or exaggerating).

I would suggest spending a month or more there and explore the islands and find out what suits you for lifestyle. Ocean, Mountain, desert, open range, etc.
