Hi All..

Im in my last semester of prereqs to get into nursing school, which, hopefully I will be starting in August.

Anyways, I was thinking for a while that I wanted to go on to become an NP, but now, Im not so sure, but who knows, I may change my time further down the road.

Im sure I wont want to do bedside nursing my whole life, and I want to get school done and out of the way before I start a family, so I was wondering..

Would it be wiser to get a BSN or an MSN? What different types of jobs does each offer? Also, I consider myself pretty smart and very determined, but I am SO nervous for nursing school. Is getting a BSN or MSN for a normal non-genious possible?? I just feel like that seems so un-atainable from where I am now..

Also, if I do plan on getting at least a BSN, what would be the quickest route?

My current plan is to get into this LPN program in Aug due to the minimal wait time, then go to a CC for my ADN, and then do an ADN-BSN & onto an MSN if I decide I want/need to do that. Would any of you wise nurses who have already done your schooling have any better options?

This decision is based upon what your job endeavors are. The mininunm degree requirement for grad school is a BSN. There are those who do the ADN/RN-->MSN route, however, they still have to take BSN classess incorportated within their MSN program, in order to receive a MSN. If future job endeavors includes teaching at a college and/ or university you probably want to go the BSN-->MSN route after obtaining your LPN. You can not function or will you be hired with a ADN/RN within these type of educational institution (4 year college/university).

gosh you sound so like me. I recommend the BSN and by then you will probably have some idea of what to do after that. I wondered if I could even pass Biology and finally ended up in Grad school. You can do it.

I am curious to know why you are going for LPN first? I wish I had went straight on for my RN back then because I only got out of, really one semester and I had to test out of it, so if you think about it your only going one or two more semesters for your RN and let me tell you a whole lot more job opportunities. Whatever you do it must be right for you and also you talked as if you think your not smart enough but it is all in what you want to do because you are the only one who can hold you back.

:confused:I only went through the 7th grade and a few years later I decided I wanted to go to college for a business diploma so I got my GED, my data processing & business adm. diploma, on to Practical nursing and then after 19 yrs. my RN license.( Well I am to graduate in May) So let me tell you, if you want to you really can do it. I won't lie and say it's easy, and you must be able to teach yourself most everything but in the end it will be worth it. Sorry to get so long winded but if I had it to do all over again I would have went straight on to get the RN degree, saved a lot of time, heartache, and money.:twocents::twocents:
