Nursing and new technology/computerized charting

So my hospital is finally entering into a total computerized pt system!

No more paper charting (unless the system goes 'down' or there is an urgent situation)......the computerized sytem will include everything...including...MD order entry/MAR/ nursing kardex....even pt location at a given time.

I am sure that many of you have such a system at your hospital.

Well, this evening I attended my second class on learning/practicing our new system. (RNs/CNA's/PA's/MD's/Clerks have all been trained over the passed 3 months)...and we go 'live' soon.

I just wanted to pass on some info that the instructor shared with us regarding nurse employment opportunity.

He said that computerized sytem trainers who have an RN license make 70-100$/hr (plus companies pay all travel expenses). He said that these positions are currently in high demand....as so many hospitals are currently (and have to) move to computerized systems.

My trainer said he travels to different locations (hospitals) every few months. He said that for RN's, it is a huge and growing field w/ lots of openings/growth (there are several large companies who sell hospitals their technology/programs) .

Personally, I would not enjoy this type of job (but the pay would be nice!), ...I just wanted to pass the info on in case any nurses here may be interested in this type of 'technology-teaching-nursing position'. :nuke:
