New nurse ,ltc

I've recently passed my boards and I have a job in ltc.I'm going to be working on my own soon and I am having a hard time getting anyone to show me what i need to know. Any suggestions? I'm getting really frustrated.

What do you mean by working on your own? Do you mean you are going to be working a shift at this LTC facility and no one has shown you the job duties, or do you mean you are leaving the LTC facility and going into private duty nursing? Are you RN or LPN?

You should have some type of orientation to go through and this should include an orientation packet that lists what nursing actions,skills are needed. If you are not being provided with this then I would ask the nurse educator or your DON when this will be provided for you. Organization is the key!! It is difficult to get organized when you are caring for 30-40 patients, all wanting something!! You should have a designated orientation period and specifics of nursing skills that need to be met. Buddy yourself up with an experienced nurse and ask if you can learn from him/her. It is not fair if they just let you "wing it" and you would be putting your license at risk if they do this to you. If there is no standard type of orientation then I think you should look elsewhere for work.
