Needlestick ugh...

So I had my first (hopefully last) needlestick today. I'm so annoyed with myself. The patient has prefilled novolog syringes where you attach the needle and reuse the cartridge. I read through the accompanying manual to see if there was a safe way to remove the needle, but unfortunately it didn't give any specifics. I'm so annoyed with myself. Ill have to head over to occupational health now. The pts hep tests were non reactive from a few months ago and she's low risk but ugh so dumb. Sorry for the rant and thanks for listening!

That sucks; sorry this happened to you. I stuck myself 3 times with an new insulin syringe and was very glad it wasn't a dirty one. I was still upset that I did this though. I've gotten blood on my hands a bunch of times though.

I don't know if this is an option for you since you are in a facility but the sharps containers that BD makes for home use have a special hole where the pen needle goes in. The hole holds the needle and you twist the cartridge/pen. When the cartridge/pen is off, the needle just drops into the container.

The containers are about $3 at Wal-mart and fit about 180 needles.
