Just wondering if the use of needleless cannula IV systems is common amongst my friendly southern neighbours.......?????
The hospital I'm at uses them faithfully to reduce the likelihood of needle sticks..... and being a student who only knows this system do you find it to be a better change from the regular IV system?

P.S. - did my very very first IV start today !!!!! Hoorah !!!!!

Everyone in the states are suppose to be using a needleless system now. Federal mandate that came down a few years ago. I love the needlesless system. I feel a lot safer doing IVP with a needleless syringe. It took a little getting use to, but I wouldn't go back for anything.

I think we started with the needleless system in '96 maybe?
We had gone to using only cannulas (jelco etc) long befor that. Butterfly needles were not allowed for IV access.
