My dad has been a type 2 diabetic for about 6 years, but over the last few months his BS has been out of control. Yesterday, his doctor prescribed 75/25 (35 units) qday with largest meal and has placed him on an 1800 cal ADA diet.

My dad is a big man, always has been, and is a meat and potatoes type of guy. What I need is some help, resources, or advice on doing some meal planning for him that will keep him full, satisfied, and compliant.

I have done some searches this AM and found a couple of good resources, and have ordered a meal planner for him with large print (he also has macular degeneration NOT related to his DM dx.)

We have an appointment with the diabetes educator at the hospital, but until then, I would like to get him started on the right track.

Any suggestions? Thanks!:kiss

Call the diabetes educator and ask them to send you some material now on portion sizes and choices. Most of them with be happy to do that so you can look over what types of foods to combine ahead of time and be better prepared. That is what I used to do for my home health patients or I would call the Diabetes Association. They have boatloads of information.

You're in luck.............

I work in telephone lifestyle/disease management and have a few things I could send you..................you wanna PM me your address if you're comfortable with that?

I forgot, there's also a good website for exchanges and meal planning, by the Kraft corp. The address is :
