Million Nurse March

I have not posted here in a long time.I came over to read the news and have read the long Million Nurse March post.

I tell you for something that started so easily on this very message board,I am amazing it is the same ones that continue to stir the pot.

The Million Nurse March is continuing to grow,we have gained much support and many members.

Jt this is for you,regarding the UAN,I spoke to them directly last year.They telephoned me at home to speak directly to me about the MNM.At that time I had a pleasant conversation with the UAN rep in DC, they were not interested in endorsing or sponsering us at the time,and they discussed no plans for upcoming events we could mutually participate in. The conversation was open and welcomed.So,it still remains open.If they call me again I will present it to them again.

I know many are referencing the archives,but when you go to the MNM archives on this site only two posts appear.I have asked Brian Short about this and it was explained to me in an email that due to the lack of interest they are all not available.So if you have access I do not please share or maybe Brian will put them all up and if anyone is interested they can read for themselves.

JT you also left the MNM by choice and that same door remains open.Just as it has been for anyone willing to put aside there agendas and March for a common cause.

The Million Nurse March is not intended to perpetuate the politics that Nurses are already facing,simply to be an avenue for Nurses to unify and display to the public that indeed we are a profession that needs respect,improved working conditions,increased compensation and new recruits.We need to reward the veteran nurses that have remained in this profession despite the working conditions and low pay,long hours ,mandatory overtime.

We need to unite whether it be by UNIONS or ASSOCIATIONS we need our strength in numbers.This is how we will be able to make the necessary changes.Also to address the traditional attitudes we display amongst ourselves.

I got in touch with a union organizer to find out what could be done about nursing and cna shortage, etc. He said that in the South it is extremely difficult to organize a union for nurses and cna's because of the constant turnover. Anyone in Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi or Tennessee know any different?

The archived material on the original MNM is all still accessable, except what was deleted by the then moderators. I did it this morning again. What is more important is that we all respect, and encourage each other in our efforts to solve this dilemma.

If your interested in wading through the original material follow these instructions.

From the allnurses home page click on "Click here for more Nursing Discussions"

Next scroll to the bottom of the new page until you see a window on the left side with the words "Visit one of our Archives".

Click on the arrow and a drop down menu appears. Select "MNM archive". Click "GO"

On the new page two topics are available. Click on "MNM-Confused".

After the new page load you will see in very tiny letters outside the highlighted area and above the first post it reads, "This topic was originally posted in this forum: Million Nurse March". Click on the blue words "Million Nurse March".

You are now at the original MNM discussion, where you will find four pages of stuff dating back to ? not sure August/September? 2000.

A coalition of everyone interested in improving health care in general and nursing specifically is what we are all striving for. Let's all use our resources to pull in the same direction.

For anyone in Ohio. A state bill has been proposed by Representative Ann Womer Benjamin of Aurora. It would ban mandatory overtime and set safe nurse/patient ratios. Please write or fax her a note of appreciation for spearheading this important legislation in Ohio.
