Mayo Clinic?

Hello, fellow nurses. I've been battling with a decision to move and join Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for some time and I was hoping for a little insight. I've done research, but it's mostly advertising by the organization, which makes it sound phenomenal, but I was hoping for a more personal perspective. Who works/has worked there? What has your experience been like? What's Rochester like? Any and all info welcome.

Background: I work at a great hospital right now, but due to personal reasons, I feel the need to make a change in my life/environment/job.

Worked in the Scottsdale facility as a traveler. Every regular and traveler HATED being there.

I had a big calendar and crossed off every day I worked, and was counting the hours.

The Mayo has rules for the rules. And you WILL follow them to the letter. Makes for a very uncomfortable atmosphere.

Think the Mayo also pays low on the scale, because the are the esteemed MAYO.

Wow, sorry to hear that! To be fair, I have heard that the Mayo extensions outside of MN are awful b/c they don't uphold the same standards. As far as pay, the starting ones listed on the job postings I have viewed are much higher than I was offered anywhere else, even @ my current job. About the rules thing, that sounds harsh... Hmm. :down: Hopefully you are out of there now!

I have not worked at Mayo but have been a patient at Mayo Rochester and at a couple of satellite ones in Minnesota. As a patient, I found the care to be good. With an organization as big as Mayo, there has to be rules, but as i said, I have never worked there.

Rochester is a small city with a lot going for it and is not far from the Twin City area. It gets cold and snowy in the winter time.

Go ahead, apply, visit, ask questions and make an informed decision.
