Management making mountains out of mole hills

So we were told yesterday that our unit staff snack "mimi-mart" (closet of snacks soda, cereals, etc) is going to be taken away because we are making a profit, operating a business without a license, and its contributing to a negative work environment.

WHAT THE HECK!!!! Lets sort this out. Making a profit....Soda can is 50cents and a candy bar is 75cents....added up the prices collectively for bulk items purchased at Costco...this is no way making a profit, if anything we need to cover additional expenses.

Secondly, operating a business without a license...GIMME A BREAK!

Third, contributing to a negative work environment....If management really wanted to face reality they would understand that BAREBONES SHORT STAFFING IS the reason for a negative work environment.

I am constantly amazed at how management turns a blind eye to the REAL issues in nursing - Short staffing, antiquated facilites/equipment, salary, benefits, customer service crap, and manditory overtime. Instead they make mountains out of mole hills.

A seasoned nurse of 22 years I work with basically said to ignore this crap. Its yet another pathetic attempt to control our every move.

The management in most of the places I have ever worked would have bent over backwards to come up with the same course of action. After all, you know it is the function of management to waste what intellect they possess to come up with ideas like this.

Ummm doesnt everybody do that??? One of my fellow nurses jokes that she always make sure to order extra diet pepsi before my shift...

I see nothing wrong with eating cereal/soup/jello or drinking juice or soda during my shift.

Now if only I could get the kitchen to send up Cheeseburgers and chicken salad---

I ain't talkin'... :lol2:
