Hello,

I have a question if I become an LPN does the certification transfer from state to state.

I once asked this about the RN program, however not about the LPN program.

I live in Mass plan on going for my RN however when I am done I am planning on moving to AZ.

Also, does anyone know how picky colleges are about accepting credits from another out of state?

Thanks I do not know what I would do without this message board.

Jonathan.

Hi Jonathan,

I'm currently an LPN about to take my RN Exam in 6 days (TAB from studying).

It depends from state to state. You will have to contact the State Board of Nursing in the state you wish to move to. Some states require letters of recommendation, copies of documentation, and probably the fee to obtain a license in that particular state.

It also depends from school to school. You need to contact the nursing depts of prospective schools and ask about transferring your classes.

Good Luck!

1. LPNs have licensure not certification.

2. To the best of my knowledge if your NCLEX scores are high enough, you license is transferable from one state to another once you apply for reciprocity.

3. Some states are allowing Nurses with licenses in other states to practice in their state without applying for reciprocity, but not all of them.

4. Good Luck!

Jgg, yes LPN licensure does transfer from state to state. After I took my boards in Ohio, I wrote the board of nrsg. in Michigan, paid $40 (approx) and was sent a Michigan license.

You're correct in part here. It used to be that if you scored over 500 I think it was, (and I did 658), of of 700, you were called "National", and could transfer your license to another state, as long as you took the NCLEX. Some states used to give their own exams(dating myself here:chuckle), but that has ended.

Now if you're a resident of a "compact" state you can work in another "compact" state on your resident state license. Since you live in Mass, which isn't a "compact" state, you will need to fill out a Nursys form, (for states that used this and MASS does), and you can do this on the their site. You pay $30 and you can have your license verified, and sent to AZ, which is compact state.

When you obtain your license in AZ, and you decide to move to another state, and that state is a "compact" state, you can practice on your AZ license. If I have confused you, and this does confuse many, go to this site, https://www.nursys.com/Common.asp?PT=NURSEVERIFICATION

and you can find all the info there. Good Luck:)
