Letting original license expire?

Hi everyone,

I originally passed NCLEX for another state. I wasn't able to get a job there, and moved on to another state. I don't plan on ever going back there, so I let it expire. I know every time I get a new licence for a new state, the Nursys system asks about where I was originally licensed, so is it going to cause problems that it expired?

Thanks.

I worked on my original license for 2.5 years then moved to a neighboring state that wasn't a compact state. I allowed that original license to expire. 4 years later I moved back to that first state and just reapplied. It wasn't a big deal at all.

Since then I've moved multiple times with my husband's job back and forth between compact and non-compact states. Each time I've just allowed each of these licenses to expire. It's never a big deal. If I happen to move (or not) move back to one of these previous states I just renew the license and start back to work.

As long as any and all previous licenses are in good standing, you're in good shape!

No, it's not a big deal. The states maintain records of even expired licenses, so, when future job applications ask you for info about license you've had, you can look up the license # and specific dates on the state website (as I've done a kazillion times over the years :)).
