Learning for the sake of learning?

Nurses General Nursing

How many nurses regularly take it upon themselves to learn or relearn about nursing skills or to stay current about nursing issues without it being for CEUs? I am curious if nurses are interested in increasing their knowledge for the sake of knowledge. Do many nurses listen to podcasts about nursing issues or take time to read blogs? Do you find nursing journals interesting or useful? I think nurses should take it upon themselves to stay as knowledgeable as possible. I would love to know what everybody thinks.

I am much more interested in spending time studying a subject that interests me or is relevant to my career than reading the sometimes asinine and redundant articles that pass as CEUs.

Does this website count?

I will flip through my nursing journals and read articles that call to me. My workplace requires a certain amount of continuing education, but I guess that doesn't count for what you are asking.

I guess everyone is different, but statistically most nurses are women. A lot of women have children at home and work full-time jobs. Between work responsibilities, child, home, family responsibilities, maintaining a social life, lots of women don't have a lot of free time. A person who is pressed for time spends it as carefully as a person short on cash spends money.
