Job shadowed yesterday

So I job shadowed yesterday in CPRU where I was recently offered a job. It was A LOT busier than I thought it would be. I mean, I knew it wouldn't be a cake nursing position (do these even exist?), but patient turnover was really high. It reminds me so much of ambulatory care. Being an ICU nurse, that aspect was pretty uncomfortable for me, but overall, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the "tight-knittedness" of the nurses. What is your advice on my feeling of discomfort with the high pt turnover? Is this a good reason NOT to accept the job? With growth and change comes a little discomfort, right?

I think you are correct about your background as an ICU nurse affecting your discomfort. As a procedural area, you will need to focus on 1 or 2 problems instead of every system.

One of the aspects that I enjoyed was a chance to see people improve immediately after having a PCI during an acute MI.

You may not stay in this area forever (I worked in one for 4 years), but you will gain valuable skills and knowledge.

You might find working in the cath lab more to your liking: you are 1:1 nursing in an intensive setting.

Thanks for your reply. Can't work in the cath lab. I was offered a job there, but I live too far (>30 minutes away) to take call. One thing about CPRU, though, electrocardioversions and TEEs are also done there. Those sound pretty interesting. :nuke:
