Nurses General Nursing

:) After High School, I am going to nursing school, and my school counselor said that finding a job somewhere that would give me more experience, is what I need to do. What KIND of job would be good, that I could learn from, or that would be good for starters???? I am going to school to be a RN :nurse:, if that helps any!

:roll Hope you can help!:roll

Thank you!

Good luck to you Megan! It's nice to hear of young people still interested in nursing....you were asking about Cook Children's Hospital in my area weren't you? Do you have an interest in working with children?

Perhaps the pediatric wing in your area hospital needs a CNA....that would be fun work! Also check into such things as ER clerks, medical records clerks, gift shop attendant in your hospital.

ER's often keep patients for days now so don't let that bother you...it's the shortage of nurses to staff the floors that keep patients in ER so long today, among other things. :)

The big Children's Hospitals here in Dallas-Fort Worth have excellent reputations and are good places to work if that is your goal someday!

Best wishes to you! You don't have to be a CNA....secretarial /clerk positions are also good places to start for a young man or lady interested in medicine and nursing. :)

Yes, I had asked if there was anyone who knew of Childrens hospital in the Dallas area. My little sister had to go there alot and My step mother thought it would be a good place for me to work since I love Kids. The drive would be LONG.... I think it takes us about 2 hours to get there from my house. But I think if you are doing what you love, ther is no place to far! The only thing I was worried about was their reputation. I know our hospital doesn't have a good reputation at all. Thank you for your help!

These are all good suggestions, especially if you already know you want to go into nursing.

I went into nursing as a 2nd (3rd, 4th, I lost count of all the crummy little jobs in between) career, and believe it or not, the best preparation I had was waitressing. It taught me how to organize many different tasks, how to keep details straight, how to make customers happy (your tips depend on it!) I was on my feet and running for 8-10 hours at a time, getting stuff spilled on me, dealing with rude people and learning diplomacy. I can't say I would necessarily recommend doing it this way if you already know you want to be a nurse, this is just the way my life's path took me.

Good luck!

tcolleen,

WOW! I would have never thought of waitressing, to help you. But it makes perfect sence! Thanks alot!
