I have a concern about this job opportunity!!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

So, i read about this job post on craigslist.com in New York,NY.

Which said they need a RN to work 12hour shifts, for a Rehab. client in NYC and they offer an initial 8 hour training.

Now this is the picture:-

Its about a client who has been brought into a Rehab. Center in NYC from Hawaii.

The client has drug orders from a Doctor in Hawaii, which includes steroid therapy and seizure medication. The Rehab. center where the client is admitted refused to give out those medications as they were not ordered from a Doctor from their facility. Which is why, they need a nurse to administer those prescribed drugs.

My concern is: does this sound sane? or by taking this position I'll be risking my nursing license?

Sounds like a scam. If the patient was really admitted to a rehab facility, there would be doctors on staff who could communicate with the MD in Hawaii and rewrite the orders. And why do they need someone to work 12 hour shifts if the patient just needs to be given medication? Way to many red flags and the scenario doesn't make sense at all.

This ad is likely designed just to get your personal information. I would not reply to the ad at all.

Personally, I'm skeptical of any job listing I see on craigslist. I know there are some nurses here who have scored legitimate work through postings on there...but far more often, you get job listings like these that are very questionable.

It's sad, desperate job seekers become victims of such scams.

I have a question: even if someone gets information of ones nursing license and their number, can they seriously cause trouble or misuse their registration? (gosh! This is scary)

Craigslist is great IMO....one must use their head. Anyway, there should have been transfer orders. Who travels without a backup of medication? Sounds like none of them know what they're doing. Plus if the person is in the rehab why not have the doc there do the Rxs...sounds too strange.

Yes Macann....absolutely.

However, keep in mind that nurses' names and license numbers are easily accessible by anyone on most state BON's websites (thanks to the FOIA). Try looking up your own license or that of someone you know to see how easy it is.

So while you should be careful who you give your information to, don't get worked up into a frenzy worrying about it. They would need quite a bit more personal info than just your name and license number to do serious damage.

But there are other ways to exploit job-seekers through online posts other than with identity theft. Asking for payment for background check services, or employment fees with the promise of reimbursement, etc. The Commuter wrote a great article about this not too long ago:

The scenario doesn't make sense. How could a patient be admitted in a facility that will not have its own MDs verify meds and have its own nurses administer them? The Q then becomes under what circumstances is this patient admitted? Aren't they there for rehab? And who exactly is giving the rehab if it's not the facility staff? Then why were they admitted in the 1st place? Who is going to be communicating to the MD in Hawaii? How is MD n Hawaii going to keep watch of his patient?

All these Qs....too fishy, smells a rat! Just becareful dear!

Thank you all for responding :)
