How soon is too soon to quit?

It is a hellishly long story and I am only going to share part of it here.

It has been an extraordinarily long and rough week for me. I really hate my new job. Not for the job itself but for the people around me. The gossip, the back biting, the " you are too new to have an opinion" attitude. I intensely dislike it. What I dislike even more is that instead of saying the things that have been said to my face, it was said to other people and taken to a whole other level of administration. It really hurt my feelings and makes me just want to scream.

Then on top of that, a resident thought I was speaking of his member when I said an area on his butt was too small to stage. (let me throw up now) Unfounded, I was with two witnesses.

So how long should I give this before I just throw in the towel?

sounds like that place may need lessons on team work and communication techniques. lol.

it is very hard to be a nurse in any area. patients need so much and staffing is usually less than ideal, so if you cannot depend on your co-workers for support and help, you are really out on a limb.

you can tell with your gut instinct if a place is right for you or not. if you love the type of work and the type of patients that you care for, lead by example and hang in there.

if not, i would probably look elsewhere. i would still work while i put in applications at other places, and give the current facility a letter of resignation with an end of employment date just to be professional.

i worked at a juvenile correction facility for three months and found out that working behind fences and razor wire with teenagers was not my cup of tea. when the next place i interviewed asked me why i only worked at the one place for three months i could honestly tell them that i tried that line of work and discovered that it was not right for me. they respected that.

future employers will look at how long you were at a place and the reason's for leaving as well as if you resigned in good standing. don't burn any bridges behind you, rather look at each job as a stepping stone to what you may one day want. good luck.

Thanks so much for the quick replies. I really appreciate it.

According to the DON, this facility is a "good building" that everyone in it is valued and respected for what they bring to the table. Apparently, my "attitude" (which has been derived from a few joking comments), has not been in accordance with what this facility's needs. I have been put on notice to either clean-up my attitude or I need to find another place to work.

I talked to one of my former co-workers, and she says that I am just fine, though she does see how new people Could misunderstand my intent and my sense of humor. She said that if I had said any of those things in front of my old collegues, they would have understood, and laughed right along with me.
