How often do you work extra?

I came home this morning from my errands to a message asking me to work extra and I do feel bad for not going in since they only need me 4 hours. At the same time, I'm going back in for my 2 scheduled nights tomorrow. I work a busy medical floor and I'm starting to feel some burn out which I'm trying to avoid.

I feel like I'm doing good just to work my OWN scheduled nights.

So do you work extra?

Close to never. But they call often sometimes every day then maybe they call once a week. Gotta love caller ID and answering machines.

I've done a total of 2 extra shifts in my 10 months. We do not get short shift options like some of you do. It's either the whole 12 hours or nothing. They do have an incentive of almost double or regular rate. So an extra shift is almost 800$.

I know nurses who average 1-2 every week. I guess the paycheck is huge (something like 6k for two weeks) , but I think that would just burn me out quickly.

I would probably do them more if I wasn't also working on my Bachelors and pregnant.

I'm also one of those who rarely works extra.. if ever at all. Lazy lazy...
