Yee gads-what a day and the fun is just beginning.2 large (and loud ) groups of visitors today. The first to arrive were making their first visit to the home since their loved one's admission (THREE YEARS!) They had FVMS--------faulty voice modulation syndrome -they could only talk at the tops of their voices. So full of plans for their loved one.Over nighters during the holidays, etc.Thankfully the social worker was on the unit and intervened. These people clearly had NO idea of their loved ones needs-Finger stick? What's that? Then the next bunch-so concerned about their Mom-mom's condition-unaware of 2 recent surgical procedures and angry because "I live 5 mins away-I would have been here with her" OK-WELL--if you live 5 mins away you should have come in once in a awhile and you would KNOW about your Mom-mom's condition..... We ended the day with 2 ER transfers-Both times we called over to give report and were told they have no beds and over a dozen patients being held over in the ER...Well-add my 2 to the census...Seems our local hospitals don't "divert" any longer....I'd prefer that over a night or 2 on a stretcher in a busy ER....Soon the vistors with their URI's will start coughing and sneezing all over us and our folks. The fun is just beginning......

I am glad I am not the only one to realize this trend!

We have gotten far more than ever psych cases than ever in our hospitals history...increase significantly of suicidal ideations. We are not set up or have adequate resources to handle this load...and I fear it is just the beginning of this!

:roll :roll

This made me smile! A patient we had today suffered from FVMS...apparently if you scream in the phone, then your family on the coast can hear you better. And the nurses can hear you...as well as the med units directly above and below you!

Seems like there is a real epidemic of this. What does the CDC have to say about it? :D
