Gen. Question

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I am new and have a question. I am in Nurse Aide school right now. Why is it that most people think CNA's are "useless". I have talked to people and when I tell them what I want to do (which is ....finish up my NA course..go and get cert..so I can be a CNA...then wait about a year or 2 and go for LPN). I get the same question over and over again. Which is mostly "do you like cleaning up old people". I think that is so rude. Anyway...I was just wondering why are so many people so - about what I want to do. So I am not an LPN, or RN at this time...I rather start at the bottom and know how far I have come and cherish that.

Act and look professional. CNA's are extremely important to the staff. They are in a position to report changes to the nurse which require interventions. Some people just like to bring others down. Ignore them.

Chickadee,

I get this same reaction from *family* and mainly one PIA sister and one stuck-up cousin. I just graduated and have been working as a GN for the last 6 weeks and STILL, my sister persists! I tell her all about the 'other' things that I do as a nurse, but she can't get past the obvious part that " makes her sick!"

The only thing that I can do is ignore it, and try not to let them bother me.....

they will both be old someday and I try to remind them that when the time comes, I hope they have someone with more compassion taking care of them.

Good luck to you! You'll do a great job!
