Delegation

  1. I'm a graduate nurse and I am preparing to take my state boards next month. My question is...I would like info on an RN delegating to other staff personell. (LPN,LVN,CNA) Also where I could obtain info on the above. It seems from what I have read on the subject there is a big difference between the world of the NCLEX and the real world. Thanks for the input!!

Florida's nurse practice act is very board, and only goes into detail when dealing with Unlicensed Assistive Personnel(UAP). I found this wording when checking it out.

"The professional nurse and the practical nurse shall be responsible and accountable for making decisions that are based upon the individual's educational preparation and experience in nursing. "

I would suggest you send off for a very cheap explanation of your nurse practice act, that explains delegation to you in more detail. Here is the URL for the site, and the material only costs from $2.50 to
$3.50. Well worth the money I think. http://www.floridanurse.org/FNApubs.asp

Also here is a site that may be helpful, concerning delegation to UAPs: http://www.unf.edu/~wahrens/delegate.htm.

I hope these help, or will lead you to where you can find exactly what you need.

Congrats on making it through school!
    And good luck on boards!
