cutbacks at work due to economy

I am so mad, I could spit nails. I know that the economy is bad, but its bad for the employees too. They now have us running on a skeleton crew which is dangerous. We are told to not use supplies unless absolultely necessary. Now they have suspended our merit raises, then they have the nerve to ask us for a donation! Twice the work, less pay. But yet they are remodelling and expanding. They can afford those things but dont realize that it is us employees who are the backbone. Anyone else's hospital doing things like this?

Unions can't really help when management wants to cutback. I've worked only at facilities with unions and management still acts this way. Unions can't stop that.

This is correct. And all a union will do at this point is take more of your money. They can't prevent cutbacks due to the economy.

I wonder if hospitals that are as full as ever in affluent areas that are crying poor and asking for give backs. The are a business and any business will take advantage of hard times to cut cost. PS Please don't believe everything here people say positive or negative about unions. Truth is unions do collect dues but the people in unions I know make so much more money than non unionized workers that they don't miss the dues deduction. Also, yes institutions do downsize even if they have unionized workers but the workers get a voice in the downsizing.
