confused as to what to do

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I have been on maternity leave for last 8 months. Previously, I have worked in orthopaedics for past 5 years and loved it. Want to go back part time but not sure whether to 1) go back to orthopaedics, 2) change into another nursing area to expand experience, 3) get out of the hospital system and go to local A & E clinic for job.

My head is going around and around trying to decide what is best. Does it matter that I stay in Orthopaedics if I enjoy it, or will it slow down my career pathway when I decide to go back full time? Would love some advice

Fiona, if you found an area you loved and you are only going to go back part time anyway, why worry about career paths? I am coming to the realization that that's what it's all about. Liking what you do. I am in the midst of deciding on a big change myself, and for once, I am going to follow my heart and choose something based on what I am most interested in not by what will look good on my resume.

Good luck!

That is the same thing I would say Bunky. Go back to what you know for the time being, there are some adjustments to make for a new working mom. If it does not work out jobs can always be changed later.
