CNA - LPN Program, just starting

I have been a lurker on this site for some time. I have read so much valuable information.

I worked in the medical field for 10 years, then changed directions into the admin asst world. Well, got let go in March and have dreamed of being a nurse since I was a little girl. I figured now is a great time for me to take the opportunity to go back to school.

I am starting a CNA class on Monday, then I am taking a health core class, then phlebotomy. I am doing this while waiting for LPN school to start in January.

I am very excited, but wanted to know the opinions of those with experience.. did anyone take this route? My thought process was CNA/Phlebotomy school would allow me to attempt to find work while going to LPN school in the daytime. Is it possible as an LPN to specialize in a certain area like trauma, psych?

I am following a similair route. I just finished my CNA and got certfied, I just found a position at an LTC until I can find one at a hospital that will help pay for me to get my RN.

I have been lurking here for a while too. I got in to an LPN program that starts in January also. I am thinking you may be on to something to get some experience before school starts. Where are you going to school? I got accepted at PHCC in New Port Richey, FL and am waiting to see about my funding.

Wow - lots in common..!! My LPN class is with PTEC (in St.Pete), they seem really nice. I have been taking classes at SPC -- but geez what a long route when taking 1 or 2 classes at a time. I start at Florida Med Tech Monday for CNA/Health Core/Phlebotomy. I will be done with all that end of December.

I am taking my TEAS test on Friday - have you taken that yet? Is it difficult? Any advice for me on taking it, for some reason this one test scares me!!!

Best of luck to you too!!! OK, don't mean to be a pest but.. was the certification test difficult? what did you think of it? Would you recommend purchasing a CNA test prep book? I am so happy for you that you found a job!! ROCK ON!! :yeah:

Good idea to find a hospital to pay for school.. so many programs are offered. Let me know how you get along with your CNA, I would reall like to know.

I'm in Texas, and for my test it was on the actual residents at the nursing home. I was the first of 8 to go test I had Ambulation, weight, and dependent mouth care. I was so nervous, but I remembered safety and privacy everything else fell into place. I used a prep book and the notes from my class along with the handbook from the state. I wrote out flash cards for each skill and just kept going through them until I knew them by memory. LOL so long story short it wasn't too hard. I practiced my skills on my son, my boyfriend, even my dad let me shave him. I'd do anything you can to practice on a live person if your going to be testing on actual people as well.

Just study and be confident and you will do great. Keep me updated as well :):D

thanks, i am testing in the same facility that my class is tought in, apparently they are a state testing site too.. i am not a good tester, i just get nervous -- so i think that will make me feel better. i have not seen what books they are giving us, guess i will find out tomorrow. that is funny, when i took phlebotomy 10 years ago i wanted to be able to practice at home.. no one volunteered!! lol!! lord, we did clinicals in a huge hospital, here in florida -- mostly elderly.. their veins are so tender, their skin so thin, and their veins collapse so easily.. i felt so terrible. i did a good job though.. they patients said i did not hurt them.. looking back i am glad i learned the more difficult patients to stick first.. most young people are easy.

i cut my ds and dh hair -- not so sure they would let me shave them, but i'm sure gonna ask.
