Choosing a preceptorship

I'm a senior and the school is starting to have us think about what specialty preceptorship we would like to request. I'd like to get opinions from those of you out there now on which direction may be best for me.

I have an MPH in community health education but have not worked in that field yet. I do NOT see myself working in a hospital setting. Ultimately, I would like to work for the health dept. or in a community health clinic, but with the furloughs and budget cuts, I'm cautious about preceptoring there, not being hired and then having a hard time getting into a more private sector job.

Considering asking for urgent care since it is a mix of ages and is both clinic-like and somewhat acute. Or I could go the safe route and precept in home health where I know I'd get hired on, get a couple years experience and then transition into public health.

What's it like out there? Any specialties I'm not thinking of that could transfer well? Thanks!
