Career decision

I've been working on a Sub-Acute unit of a nursing facility for about 2 years now. I've been looking to move on the I got a call today from a very well respected hospital offering me a position on their Transitional Care Unit, people aren't sick enough to be in the hospital but not well enough to go home. This position sounds exactly what I'm doing now. My question is, I don't know if I should take it. On one hand this seems like a great way to get into a hospital, on the other hand I feel like I have more to offer and don't want to have to prove myself again.

I always think that if you applied somewhere there was a reason for it. I would reflect on those feelings that made you want to apply for the position. I don't think it ever hurts to get a foot in the door, but the grass is not always greener (especially if it's the same exact job).

Thank you, that's just the problem, I've applied for several positions at that facility, the TCU position wasn't one of them. I'm sure I'll figure something out.

Foot in the door. Do well and then much easier to transfer as a known quantity.

A facility is always going to place you in the position they feel you are the best fit for.

A TCU within a hospital will be different than a sub-acute SNF. Put in your 6 months, then start the in-house transfer process.. if you still want to.

You will be "proving" yourself many times in your career.. it's how we grow in our skills and knowledge base.
