Car Seat Stories or information?

Hello,

I'm in college studying to become a RN (working on core classes right now) and I have to give a persuasive speech on car seats, why people should use them, do they save lives, etc.. Does anybody have any stories or information they'd be willing to share with me? I need some help with this, I can't seem to find much on the subject. Can anybody help me please or offer me a case in which they've seen or heard about in which a little one could have been spared their life or injury if they'd been in a car seat? (make sense? :)....

Thanks in advance,

I had a 3 year old last year that was not in a car seat, mom ran off the road and hit a tree. Baby did a face plant into the back of the front seat. her little nose was flattened, nice nasal fx, concussion, abrasions etc.

I spent the whole visit educating this mom on how lucky she was ALL that resulted was this. I also REFUSED to discharge this little girl until they got a corificeat. As I was on the phone trying to get them a corificeat myself the Dad and Grandpa went to Target and bought one. Kid didn't even have a corificeat!

Just think of an unrestrained projectile in the event of a crash.

Most Fire depts. and Hospitals have car seat check up type programs to assist in making sure seats are properly installed. You could probably check with your local news station and they may have a community event listing for one.

Hello!

Unrestrained children is one of my biggest pet peeves!! My dad was a police officer, my brothers a Fire Chief, and my niece is seven and is STILL in a car seat. I get eye rolls and laughs, but I don't care. Technically she can sit it in until she's 80 pounds, and as long as she's comfortable in it, that's fine with me. Everybody else she rides with lets her sit in the normal car seat, even in the front seat!! :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire and her little knees do not make it to the edge of the seat. It looks ridiculous to have her in a seat belt made for ADULTS 80+ lbs and much taller than she is.

She's in a booster with a back now, we went shopping for a backless one, but she doesn't like it as much because she is lower, and I don't like them because she sleeps a lot in the car and without the back she looks like a little fish flopping around.

THERE IS INFORMATION OUT THERE. Talk to EMS and find certified car seat installers and talk to them and ask them for resources. Hopefully your report will stay with everyone who reads it- car seats save lives, and some of the laws regarding them (for example, in some states, children can sit without seats at 2 years!!) are just ridiculous.

How long do you have to work on this project? Enough time to take a sar seat installation certification class??

Good luck!
