Can you be PRN in 2 units in the same hospital?

I just accepted a PRN position in L&D.

For fun I was just looking through job postings at my new hospital and saw something I'd be interested in. PRN day surgery. It's a field I've always wanted to get into.

Once I start, and get through orientation, if that position is still available, could I apply for it? (Or other PRN positions that may come up?)

I'd still want to stay PRN on L&D I think.

Just mix it up a little.

Has anyone ever done this?

It seems easier than looking for a second PRN job at a different hospital, but not sure if the hospital would consider it a conflict of interest.

Shouldn't you be asking that particular hospital what their policy is? My current hospital has nurses who work in different units on a prn basis. We also have a float pool, so those nurses can work anywhere within the same facility. That said, I have worked at a hospital who considered it a "conflict of interest" to work at a competing hospital. You really need to find out what your particular hospital is willing to hire you for. Good luck.

It seems working two PRN positions in the same hospital would work, but what if both units need you on the same day?? I have found that in the past hospitals were reluctant to cross train nurses in certain departments. You would have to ask the HR person, or at least let them know you are interested. It would be better for you to stay at the same hospital instead of finding another position at another hospital, they tend to not like that.
