Is it unprofessional to wear afros, natural hairstyles, or braids as a medical professional? Many of my friends want to get rid of the relaxer and wear their natural but are afraid they won't be accepted in fear that straight hair is the most accepted hairstyle in America??

that is some straight-up gorgeous hair.

fwiw from a white girl, i think natural is fantastic and it always makes me happy to see women who choose it. own it!

there's a little girl who is in a bunch of laurie berkner videos on nick jr who has the most incredible natural i've ever seen. my daughter and i are in awe of her and i love that her parents chose to keep it that way. doesn't hurt that she's cute enough to eat, either...

anyway. also, if a school rejects you/facility won't hire you because of your hair, you don't want to be there anyway.

no way! i was totally thinking of that little girl with her big, beautiful hair in those videos while i was reading this thread! my son watches jack's big music show all the time, so i see her a lot. she just looks so cute and happy and confident, i love to watch her - and so does my (very white) preschooler, who always calls her the "giwrl with the pwreddy haiwr." :lol2:

as long as it's neat and clean, go for it, op. natural is no less "professional" than the alternative.

Wow. I am a fellow natural member of these forums as well as a cna. I will be finished school in 4 months and it brightened my heart to see this post. Thanks for spreading the word on healthy natural aa hair.

I'm not a fan of braids, but I like natural hair. I saw a girl competing with super super short natural hair and she was gorgeous, like http://newaylook.com/best-short-hairstyles-black-women/but I guess cutting it that short isn't for everyone.
