Anyone work at Roper St. Francis Hospital in Charleston,SC? I just got called for an interview for the hospital a few weeks ago and wanted to know what people thought about working there or if you have ever worked there. I am really stoked about my interview and wanted to know any juicy inside secrets before proceeding. Is it a good place to work for? Is the people there easy to get along with? Any input appreciated! Thanks Guys!

My husband worked at Roper for over 3 years as an RT and he loved it. I also liked all the people in his department. It's a good place if it's still the same

Hey there,

I suppose it's no different than most places; some love it and some hate it. Most of my experience has been with people that hated it and now work at the Medical University of South Carolina. Roper is a private hospital and I've heard many stories about how difficult the MD's are and how nurses are not allowed to call MD's at night unless they run it by the house supervisor first to make sure it is necessary. Most of the nurses I know that have left Roper prefer the teaching environment at MUSC. I also have a close friend who's husband hurt his back on the job, lifting a patient, and he has been treated terrible by Roper. They even went so far as to attempt to coerce the witnessing nurse to deny she saw his injury occur so they wouldn't have to pay worker's comp. They have had to hire an atty to help them deal with this hospital.

On the flip side, my mother-in-law works there and has for many, many years. She has no complaints.

I hesitated to post this because I know how negative it sounds, but I would want to know little things like this myself if I were headed for an interview. Like I said, it's no different from anywhere else, it's all in what works for you! Good luck in your interview! It could be a great fit for you.

PS: I don't know what your area is but MUSC is hiring too, especially ICU.
