Good luck! :)

I haven't heard of any MA forums, maybe try searching google.

What are the responsibilities of an MA? I've only vaguely heard of that profession.

Sparkle,

I also went from MA school to nursing school. There is a forum for MA's on the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants). Hope this helps. If you also just type in Medical Assistant forums in your browser, you should find something.

Manna,

In my state anyway, an MA can do vitals, injections, veinipunctures, and some diagnostic testing. However, I always wanted a bigger scope of practice and was never really happy. Again this is only in my state, but MA's are pretty much restricted to physicians offices only and end up doing way more than they are qualified to do. I was being paid $8.00 and hour for starting I.V.'s and being left alone to monitor patients recieving infusions. Not to mention other things. Physicians like the fact that they can pay an MA very little and "train " them to do things above and beyond their scope of practice. I told the physicians I worked for that I was not comfortable with some of the things I was doing, but they said that they "trusted my judgement." Yeah right! They liked the fact that I was doing it for so little money. Also a MA is not liscensed, but certified or registered. Everywhere is different on what they will and will not allow the MA's to do. You work under the Physicians liscense and if they say they will train you to do something, it is their liscense on the line. I wished I had gone to nursing school instead but everything happens for a reason, and I have gained a lot of experience and had the opportunity to work with alot of wonderful people. I am also going into nursing with some experience, which can't be all that bad.
