ANA and ADAPT

I just read about this! Has anyone heard of the ANA's involvement with ADAPT? This article says that the ANA blew the disabled off! Gracious! That is disheartening and doesn't seem to go along with what I though we were all about. At least we were at one time. I am disappopinted that this happened. TweetyRN

Do you work for ADAPT and if so which one? Just curious, I worked for ADAPT of Mo approx 2 years ago this Thanksgiving. Really curious as to what they are doing now?

No I don't work for them, but I would enjoy that. I just read that article today and was really disappointed that ADAPT received the response they did from the ANA. There is mention of a bill that they either are or were trying to pass. In my career, I have witnessed many incidences of patients in locked facilities when I really doubted the need to be there based on their history and their chart. It was always a very troubling experience for me as a nurse wanting to give my all to increase the Quality of Life for my patients and having my concerns disregarded or worse being considered a threat to the those more interested in the revenue of the faciity than the patient's quality of life. When they are children, there is more hope for them due to the time factor, but when I see adults who have come from institutions having spent their lives there misdiagnosed and who end up in for-profit nursing homes when the state facilities close, I find that so very hard and such a waste! I will always be a patient advocate, and we all know patient avocacy is not the priority at this very shameful point in time. As long as those patients bring in revenue, they will stay there, and some may never experience the things most take for granted. I don't know how others feel, but this greatly concern me. I am sorry to find that the ANA responded in the way they did. TweetyRN
