Hello all!! :nurse:

So, I'm currently orienting to a new hospital position in OB / L&D. The position is a combo of 3-11 and 11p-7a. I have been given the option (for when I'm off of orientation) to work 2 weeks evenings then 2 weeks nights rinse and repeat OR one month evenings followed by a month of nights...rinse and repeat....

Does anyone else have a schedule like this? Which would you advise I chose the 2 week rotation or 1 month rotation?

Whats the healthier version, both mentally and physically? Let my body get used to a month at a time, or constant body clock confusion? haha I don't think either option is the greatest, but these are the only available options.

I have never worked 11-7 before. My body seems to function best on the 3-11 shift, however the position is awesome and this was the only shift available....so there is my position...any and all thoughts appreciated :)

PS this is a full time position

Thanks in advance!!!!

Do you have to choose or can you just pick one? That's kinda odd that they do that, but I guess it's to maintain fairness?

I wish I could just chose 3-11, but I'm hired for both evenings and nights...grrr. They think they are being nice by giving my this decision lol of how I want to split the rotation, biweekly or monthly. I'm very happy to be able to work in this area of nursing, but the constantly switching hours don't seem the healthiest to me. imho....

I would go with month to month. The biweekly thing seems like it would be a little tougher. I did a month to month rotation for a couple of months . It was 7a to 7p to 7p to 7 a and I didn't think it was too bad.

I would take the month to month option. The less often you flip, the easier it'll be on your body.

Thanks for the replies. Yes. This past month has been a week in each shift and rough mentally and physically So I completely agree I hope the next schedule gives me a month chunk or longer.
