This is for acute care RNs...salary poll

Nurses General Nursing

I am doing preliminary research for a journal article. The premise is to uncover salary differences between entry level RNs vs experienced RNs. Here in the northeast, unless a clinical ladder program exists, there doesn't seem to be a significant difference between the two. Tell me about your hospital. Thanks!

A few simple questions.

1) How many years as an RN?___

2) What's your specialty?___

3) Your wages?__

4) Your hospitals starting wages?__

5) Name another professional career that settles on 3-4% annual increases.(if that!)__

6) Does your hospital give sign-on bonuses?__

if so, how much?__

7) Do they give retention bonuses?__If so, how much?__

Thanks for your participation. this should be interesting!

A few simple questions.

1) How many years as an RN?___ 3 years

2) What's your specialty?___

L&D

3) Your wages?__

$21/ hr

4) Your hospitals starting wages?__

$16.50

5) Name another professional career that settles on 3-4% annual increases.(if that!)_ ANY career associated w/ healthcare. My sis works in HR at a hospital, gets about that percentage or lower each year.

6) Does your hospital give sign-on bonuses?_ I think so. Not sure.

7) Do they give retention bonuses?__If so, how much?__

No.

I'd like to add, my frustration with the habitual lower pay for ambulatory care. I recently accepted a position in an ambulatory care setting as an OB phone triage nurse. They offered me $16.74/hr (note my hospital's starting salary) but they also offered me a sign on bonus of $1500 (so, after taxes I see $700. Wow.)

This is with 3 years of L&D experience. Now I know I am by no means "experienced" like years and years experienced, but basically, I am getting the salary that I started out with 3 years AGO. A nurse is a nurse is a nurse. Why do we have to choose between day hours and good (relatively speaking) pay?? It's horrible.
