PPE is there to protect you from the patient, not the patient from you. And like the other poster said, she should keep her purse under the gown.
Of course, droplet precautions are for people who will be within three feet of the patient. If they keep their purse on the other side of the room, it might be OK?

When a patient is on droplet & contact precautions and the specimen results are not yet back
(the patient has a respiratory infection) - this means that anyone entering the patient's room must
wear gown, gloves, mask, goggles. Why is it okay for a visitor to put on all of these, and then
to take their purse in when visiting the patient?
