A sad story

Today at my son's high school they had "BRING YOUR DAUGHTER TO WORK DAY." He's 15 y/o and even he couldn't believe this. He said, "Mom, the students brought more kids to school than the teachers. There must have been 30-40 little kids in school. The place looked like a day care?!?!?!" He also said, that one girl who was 15 brought her 6 y/o with her. So that means that she was 9 when she had her????????????????? OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the heck is going on here? I know that teens are having babies, but, how sad is this????????????

In an age where so much information is so readily available, this is truly sad indeed. I have never understood how teens can allow themselves to be placed in a situation af having their life on hold and raising a child, while they are still children. The sad part is, most of them feel "grown up" but being responsible is also a part of "being grown up." My daughter is 26 years old. She had 5 friends that she hung around with while in school. She is the only one that didn't have a child prior to marriage and several of the girls had 2 or more. Then they wonder why they cannot get anywhere in life. It makes me sad to see young lives altered when it could have been avoided. That's not to say that their children are not loved as I'm sure they are, but how much better their life could have been if only they had made different choices. I told my daughter when she started being interested in boys that when the day came that she wanted to be sexually active that I would take her to the doctor and put her on the pill. I also told her that taking the pill did not mean she had to have sex. I don't feel that I was encouraging her to have sex, but rather I was protecting her from a mistake that could take away her dreams. A couple of my daughters friends wanted to go on the pill but their Mom refused, stating they were too young to have sex. To me that's like burying your head in the sand. They had sex anyways, and then they had babies. I know this could become a heated discussion, for many will think I was wrong in my decision for my daughter. My daughter went to college, fulfilled her dreams and lives a good life, traveling and doing what she wants to do with her life, She has no regrets and neither do I.

Kudos to you Duckie! I absolutely agree with your decision about your daughter and birth control pills. You did the right thing in my book. I can't understand either why these kids would want to have kids in the first place! Most of these kids aren't responsible in RAISING and nurturing children and most of the time it's their parents who wind up raising these poor little ones instead. Why have them in the first place? I'm lucky that I'm not embarassed to talk to my kids about sex and having protection against not only getting pregnant (I have a 12 y/o daughter also) but with all the STDs out there and aids! My God, you get aids, you die. (maybe I could scare them into not having sex at all??? Yeah right!!!) She also has a friend her age. Friend told her mom that she can't wait until she's 16 so she can quit school and have a baby just like her older sister did. I'm trying to talk her out of that one, but her sister's child is 2 and spends more time with grandma than with mommy! I told my son that he better have those condoms in his wallet! If he's too embarassed to buy them, tell me...I'll buy them because most kids today are going to have sex anyway. Some may get what you're saying others just don't and they're the ones that mess up their young lives. It is burying your head in the sand if you think your child is too young to have sex and refuse to help them in protecting their future, their dreams and their lives. Kids today are doing at 13-14 what we did when we were 18,19 and 20. It's really incredible how a parent can stand by their child and allow them to mess their lives up by having a baby at a very young age. My son also told me about this girl in his class who at the time was 14 and being home schooled because she was pregnant with twins!!! He also said that her mother wanted her to have the babies. Is that INSANE or what??? What is wrong with these parents??? Well he pointed out her mother to me once at the store. She looked very young herself and probably had her daughter when she was 15. Some times the chain just keeps goin and going until one day someone has enough sense to say no,or get protection and make something out of themselves by getting an education. I just hope that parents or parents to be take heed in this little discussion and lead their kids down the right path. Get them help before they mess up their lives with having babies. there's nothing WRONG with getting your daughter on the pill, or providing condoms for your son. Kids will do what kids do--have sex. I would rather see my child protected if they're going to have sex than not. Don't let them mess up their lives.
