by AndyMan Nov 29, '11I am scheduled to have a balloon assisted enteroscopy in three weeks and don't know what to expect. I have had many endoscopies as well as colonoscopies. What should I expect during this procedure? Was told it can take upwards of two hours to finish. What kind of sedation is used for this? What should I expect afterward? Any help would be appreciated.

- Nov 30, '11 by VivaLasViejasHi~I'm sorry, but we cannot offer medical advice of any kind, as it's beyond our scope of practice as nurses, students, and pre-nursing students to do so. Please see your gastroenterology doctor and ask him/her to describe this procedure and answer any questions you may have, as s/he is best qualified to advise you. Good luck to you.

Please, contact your provider's office or the facility where this procedure is going to be done and tell them you have questions. Let someone who knows exactly what is scheduled go over what is going to be done, the type of sedation to be used, and any possible complications or side effects you might experience.
These are all important matters that should be discussed to your satisfaction before the day of your appointment.
Hope all goes well for you.
