Gastic Bypass surgery question

Hi, I am currently a CNA and have been to a 4 year nursing school, I quit due to tuition increases and am going to start a LPN school in July. Ok here is my question, my mom just had gastric bypass surgery and came home Friday...when she checked in two different nurses asked if she has diabetes and she said no....now when it was over and she was in her room they were coming in checking her blood sugar every few hours and giving her insulin shots....and again she told them she is not diabetic....on her discharge papers it again lists in 2 different places that she has diabetes and she does not.....question is what are the adverse effects of all those insulin shots going to have on her? Are they going to hurt her in any way? I am worried because I take care of my mom and in turn she watches my kids while I am at work and school....she is all I have ever known, if there is going to be a problem caused by the insulin shot I want to be able to fix it before she is too bad off. No one at the hospital would tell her of me anything when we asked questions. Please just let me know its not going to hurt her.

Thank you

ALthough we cannot give medical advice on this forum. Only thing I can tell you is, we are often told to monitor and cover insulin of alot of patients (diabetic and nondiabetic) due to surgery increases stress on the body, which increases the bodies need for energy thus increasing glucose available. When this happens, sometimes it gets too high, and to prevent actual diabetic complications we give insulin to prevent them. I work on an ortho floor so although I could rationalize the reason for your mother getting insulin, I am not a doctor. So I can only tell you why WE cover it. Hope it helps

thx I know we cant get advice I just wanted to know if it was normal practice. Thank you for an answer =)
