dosage calculations videos/dvds/audios?

Hi all,

I am anew student. I have completed all my Pre-Requisite courses, and I need to take a 1 hour dosagecalcuations class. BOO-HOO for me, right? My problem is: I AM NO GOOD AT MATH!!!!!!!

I learned algebra through ratio and proportions, not Dimensional Analysis. While I am used to ratio and proportions, I can see how D.A. is easier to do with less steps, but I am having trouble getting comfprtable with it. I am a visual learner. I am a Show-Me learner, not a Make-Me-Read-it-and-do-it learner. If I see someone do it step by step and tell me what to do step by step, I can so it. If I don't see someonedo it, I can't just read it in a book and figure it out by the examples. Can anyone recommend a video/DVD or audio instruction program that tells you how to perform problems step by step ratherthan making you read the bood copy the examples, and take your best crack at the problems? I really hate the "read the chapter, study the example, do the problems" way of teaching math. I need more one on one instruction and repetition with instruction to do math.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

laura77598. . .i have some links to medical math problems that show how they are done by dimensional analysis and i will list them here for you although i know that's not what you are looking for. i do have some links to videos for algebra, but that's not what you are looking for either, is it? dimensional analysis is actually a method that is employed in basic college chemistry programs, so if you do an internet search in that direction you might find something.

http://connection.lww.com/products/morton/documents/pdfs/pt0002.pdf - 90 iv rate calculation problems! and here are the answers to all 90 http://connection.lww.com/products/morton/documents/pdfs/ak0002.pdf fully worked out and shown to you by both dimensional analysis and ratio methods!

http://www-isu.indstate.edu/mary/tutorial.htm - from the indiana state university a "basics" page on medication math with explanations on how to do a number of different types of medications problems (including iv problems), conversions and dimensional analysis with links to lots of practice quizzes.

see if these are what you are looking for:

http://ocw.mit.edu/ocwweb/physics/8-01physics-ifall1999/videolectures/index.htm - the video of lecture 1 for this physics course seems to hit on dimensional analysis. however, i have no idea what is in the video, but i'm guessing that it's a review of how to do it since it's the first lecture of the class.

http://www.wwnorton.com/chemistry/tutorials/ch1.htm - click on "1.4 dimensional analysis". it is an interactive program that explains da using animation rather than video in what i thought were very simple terms. also includes several problems you can try your hand at which are not chemistry related but utilize the concepts of da. i thought the problems got kind of involved, but they certainly did demonstrate how demensional analysis is used.

i have always hated math and that is what has stopped me from going to school for nursing for so many years. once you get the hang on dimensional analysis it really is not to bad. for me the key was to first find out what they are asking for ex: ml/hr place that to the left of the problem. that is what you want to end up with. it is so hard to explain. i am like you i need to do it not read it. i wish you luck be patient. you will get it.;)
