usf information for fall 2012

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello everyone !!! (new to the site)

I am a pre-nursing student at MDC. I am graduating on april or may of 2012 with my AA. I am planning to apply to USF ( UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA) thats my first choice and then comes FSU,UF, UCF AND BARRY. I would like to know some info about the university and specially the nursing program. I already filled out some part of the application to FSU since is open a year before of the planning entrance term. Also, I would like to have some feedback about the volunteer hours if they just accept the ones related to the medical field. I am part of the volunteer team at Miami Children's Hospital in the PICU (pediatric intensive care unit) and I volunteer at MDC tutoring students that are learning english and spanish as a second language.I would really appreciate your comments. God bless you :)

Hi I was accepted this fall to USF’s nursing program I think I might be able to help you with some of your questions. There are four parts that they look at to determine if you are USF material. They look at your overall GPA, prerequisite GPA, resume, and personal statement. They give a grade to each part. Then add it up and pick from the highest. What volunteer experiences you include in your resume and personal statement is your choice. They did not give us a specific rule as to what volunteer experiences we were allowed to include. Personally I put both my medical and non medical experiences in my resume. So far the program has been hectic but good.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Thannk you very much for your post... Do you mind telling me what was your gpa and if you live on campus or off.? thanks

My GPA is a 3.87. I have one B in my prerequisites. I live off campus with my parents (trying to conserve cost).

Thank you VERY for your answer seems like i have a lot of chances then.. I heard that is very competitive.. what are your suggestion regarding the essay and the resume? do you recommend to have a lot of letter of recommendations is a good idea?

Well they do not accept letters of recommendation for the BSN program. But this link should help you to know what they are looking for in your writing sample/personal statement.

Oh i see.. thats great they dont accept letter of recommendatios.. because i have like 6 or 7 letter of recommendations.. so once again thanks.. VERY tell me about the program.. how are the classes? do you have friends up there or some classmates are in their own world..

The classes are on Monday and Thursday. Lab is on Tuesday. Clinical is on Wednesday or Friday depending on which hospital you are with. Classes are very interesting. Some of the classes are taught by more than one teacher.

Most of the classmates are really eager to get study groups together. There are very few classmates that are in their own world. Many carpool to school and clinical.

great sound very interesting!!!! regarding the professors .. are they tough or they demand to much from students? i wonder how many students they accepted this year... and around how many males and females are in.. thanks for everything very here my facebook

All of the teachers have their different styles of teaching. This can make some teachers harder than others. The tests are hard but if you study you should be fine. Personally I think the hardest part is the grading scale. The grading scale for an A is 93-100 a B 84-92.

There were 96 students accepted this fall. That includes both second degree and upper division students. I do not know the breakdown as to how many are male or female.

wow thats great... thank you very much VERY for all the info.. i cant wait to see myself in the process .. i want to get into this school so bad.. i heard they have a very good programm,.. compare with other universities :)
