Tampa, FL Hospitals: HELP!

  1. 0
I'm relocating to the Tampa area from PA in January. I'm a young nurse, looking to work on Med/Sug, and Ortho units. I have interviewed and visited with some hospitals in the area, including St. Pete General, Northside Hospital, Brandon Community Hospital, and Florida Hospital of Tampa. Any suggestions for employment? I also was cautioned with the HCA healthcare hospitals. Does anybody have any information or opinions about this? I've been researching reviews and patient satisfaction for the hospitals, but if anyone has lived or currently lives in this area, I'd really appreciate your input. All the hospitals seem great. I'm just trying to choose the right hospital for me.
    Thanks!
    Rachel

    Stay away from HCA.

As a nurse who works for an HCA facility, I agree with the posters^^above--stay away from HCA. It's a P.O.S. company and I (and many of my co-workers) are actively trying to get out of their hospitals.

I used to live in Tampa, but I'm not familiar with all the hospitals. University Community Hospital (I believe it's Florida Hospital of Tampa) has always had a horrible reputation. I'm not sure about how it is now, since it's under new management. You didn't mention TGH (Tampa General Hospital), but TGH is AWESOME! You should consider applying here, if possible.

I know they have a new grad ICU residency program, where you get to rotate to different critical care settings (MICU, NICU, ED, PACU, PCU, etc) and then settle on one of the settings. I don't know when the applications are open. I'm pretty sure it's closed right now though. However, to be really sure, I would look on the jobs page for TGH and if possible, try to get in touch the coordinator.

Thanks! I will add that to my list of daily websites to check for residencies. I would like to keep options open as far as facility and location.

    Thanks for your help!

We are in the same boat. I started applying out of sate recently. FH Tampa doesn't have the best reputation, lets say a relative works there and will not let me apply to any RN positions. I've decided to apply anyway because I'm desperate. I had a phone interview with someone from HCA. She wasn't very nice and Im glad to see everyone warns not to work there. Helps my ego a bit. If you'd like you can PM me and I can give you places to apply.

try baycare... baycare mobile pool does short term contracts, can provide housing if you are from out of the area and has great pay (no benefits though). I came down from Ky a year and a half ago and I think baycare is the best in the area... stay away from HCA. Florida Hospital has a good rep in Orlando but they have just assumed the Tampa Bay hospitals and so they have not had time to get up to the regular standards.
