RN ADN Program at Indian River State College

U.S.A. Florida

Hello all, I have been a longtime lurker of an.com and have had a passion for all things medical for years. I have finally been given the golden opportunity of being able to go to school, and even though I live in Brevard county, Keiser University charges close to 40k for an ADN, and I find Brevard Community to be lacking (I've sampled classes at both).

So I've chosen to drive my 40-odd minutes south to IRSC. I have already registered for the fall term for some of my pre-reqs (which will take longer since I have to take the Prep Math 1 and 2... it's been over eleven years since high school math and I've effectively forgotten EVERYTHING). I'm taking Prep Math 1, Spanish 1 (because I'm going to try and fill in the foreign language req for eventual BSN program), Nutrition, Human Development, and English Comp 1. Next semester will be comparatively empty since I can only take Prep Math 2, Eng Comp 2, and Spanish 2... since I have to complete preparatory math with a passing final overall test in order to qualify for any of the science classes, and I have completed my Intro to Psych pre-req years ago with an A+, so it should transfer.

Anyway long story short, if I get all As, study hard, score high on the NLN PAX, do you think I will have a good shot at being accepted into the program noting that I am NOT a resident of the four counties that IRSC serves, which will dock me some "points"? Anyone from out of the 4 county area that has been accepted? Any tips? I want this more than ANYTHING!!!

Thank you!

They DO consider applicants from our 3 counties first. I am almost done now, but that was what they told us in one of the initial meetings.

I heard they dont accept anyone outside of those counties. I would be worried if I were you. Whats so terrible about BCCs program?

ive never heard this or any kind of preferential treatment counted towards/against where you live. I highly doubt if you have competitive scores and are better suited educationally for the program, they would pick someone else less suited simply because they live closer, but thats just personal opinion. still like i said, ive never heard of such.
