Retaking Classes

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I went to Miami-Dade College yesterday to ask about retaking some classes because when I originally attended five years ago, I didn't take college seriously and was going through a lot of personal things. I ended up with Cs in my Anatomy classes and labs and in my math classes. At the time I had no aspirations of becoming a nurse or doing anything medical and I don't want my mistake from so long ago to affect me so harshly now.

The adviser told me that Florida law forbids anyone who got a C or better in a class to retake it for a better grade. Is this true? I remember hearing different things from my friends when they were in college. Is there any possible way you guys know of that I could retake these classes? For example, a friend told me it might be possible to attend a private college for a semester, retake the classes and send them to MDC?

Thanks for any advice (:

I believe you can go to another institution and take it but keep in mind you will still have the same institutional GPA but that's a lot of time and money...Honestly if you do well in your other pre reqs you should be fine...some Nur programs just look at if you passed the class with a C or higher...

It's true. And time doesn't change this little law, either. When I was 16 years old I attended a community college for Resp. Therapy. It really wasn't for me. I was too young and too immature. I got a C on A&P I and II. Cue twenty YEARS later when I tried to get into a nursing school.. no one, including that CC, would look at me. I couldn't retake the class even though twenty years puts science classes out of date and forces a retake. Well, I could take it, but I'd still keep the original C.

I went to a private college instead, got excellent grades, and graduated Valedictorian. Anything is possible.
